Move Out Day

Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Wednesday, D day. No it’s not D day, but we have to be out of our apartment today. Let me just tell you how not prepared we were. Moving is terrible. Absolutely terrible. You don’t even have time to be sad, because moving sucks so badly. In Aaron’s defense he did a lot of packing last week while I was at work. He did have a plan in his head that roughly came together. Without him, I would have been there for at least another month. We woke up about 7:30am ate what little breakfast we had, which I’m pretty sure was a cliff bar and went at it. Aaron had to go down south about 30 minutes to unload his storage unit. I stayed at home, because I actually had to send one more email out to my team at work so I didn’t leave them in the dark on what still needed to be done. While Aaron was gone the U-Haul U-boxes were dropped off. Just imagine a semi with a bed of these u-boxes and a forklift on the back of the truck trying to find room to park in the middle of a city on a hill. We live halfway up a hill with narrow streets. Totally ideal for moving. You should have seen what it took to get these things parked on the street. That driver was a pro. Aaron showed up about a half hour after she left with all his stuff. We were able to load his stuff in the first box, which at first made us pretty scared, because we did not think the rest of our stuff would fit in the other two. Something to mention would be that we only had 5 hours to pack these boxes. The city wanted us to pay $250 per box to keep them on the street overnight. Since we are both unemployed we just couldn’t risk the ticket. Aaron and I were packing as fast as we could. We ended up calling our good friend Jordan who agreed to come and help and he brought over one of the guys from where he works to help. His name is David. Jordan is David’s caretaker, he’s a special needs man who loves 90s country and mountain dew. He was awesome. I was able to pack more while Aaron and Jordan carried out the heavy stuff. The clock was ticking. The lady promised to call when she was close to the house to pick up the boxes. When she called we were literally throwing stuff in the last box.  Not to mention we still needed to clean the apartment. Dear God please help us. After the driver came to pick up the boxes Jordan and David took off. It was about 9:30 and we went up and knocked on the manager’s door to let her know we weren’t going to be done cleaning. She was very gracious and said that it wasn’t a big deal if we hung out and kept cleaning the next day. So we called it quits and laid out the air mattress and crashed hard. Aaron’s poor body had been lifting heavy objects since 9am.
